Family Business
Family Business was created using watercolor and acrylic on thick paper. The delicate, pale figures contrast with the bold, restless orange of the background. This makes them appear vulnerable, but also like fading memories. They can represent people who have shaped us since childhood and may continue to influence us into adulthood, even if they are no longer part of our lives. The black, monochrome frame separates the family structure from its surroundings, while the flame pattern, created with a paint marker, extends beyond the frame. This makes the boundary between family and the outside world feel incomplete. The blue-green flames initially seem unusual against the orange background. At the same time, their colors refer to the particularly hot blue part of a flame. They can symbolize conflicts and boundaries where we can get “burned” if they are not respected. However, the open flame border also leaves room for setting boundaries and developing a sense of independence. The person in the center appears annoyed and slightly rebellious. They seem to resist the expectations and influences of the others while trying to find their own place both within and outside the family structure.
