Too Many Possibilities - Squandered

Against a dark greyblack background, soft, transparent clouds of color in white, blue, and red float across the image. The many veils and mistlike areas of color give the work a mystical, almost dreamlike atmosphere. In the lower left corner is a (bald), transparent figure, of whom only the outline is visible. A white glow surrounds the figure, setting it apart from the background. Balanced on the fingertips is a colorful Rubik’s Cube, at the same time covered by a white veil, which projects threedimensionally from the picture surface through a thick layer of varnish. On the plane behind it floats a huge, slightly transparent Rubik’s Cube that appears almost overpowering and mystical.
The transparency of the figure makes it appear vulnerable and at the same time indecisive. The smaller cube on the fingertips represents the concrete decisions we face in life. Like a Rubik’s Cube, there are countless possible combinations. At the same time, the cube represents the attempt to bring order to an apparent chaos and find the “right” solution. Yet every turn changes the arrangement again, much like decisions in life, which create new possibilities and consequences.
The enormous cube in the background reinforces this feeling. It appears like a system of possibilities that is almost impossible to grasp, hovering above the figure. At the same time, it seems not only threatening but also fascinating, as a symbol of the complexity of life and the countless paths that open up before us.
The work explores decision making, feeling overwhelmed, and the multitude of possibilities in life.
