Trippy Tubbie
The artwork was created on paper using felt-tip pens, markers, and acrylic paint. It depicts a Teletubby, a familiar character from a children’s TV show, who appears slightly evil and threatening here. This makes the childhood memory feel like a fever dream or bad trip: something familiar and innocent suddenly becomes strange and unsettling when viewed from an adult perspective.
The colorful background and cheerful sun contrast with the dark atmosphere and the consuming pattern. This creates the impression that behind positive childhood memories, there may also be a darker or repressed side.
The burgundy frame, decorated with glittering fabric and blue rhinestones, feels both playful and artificial. It could represent the way memories are beautified, idealized, or romanticized over time, even though something unsettling may be hidden beneath the beautiful surface.
This raises the question: Do we suddenly see old childhood memories differently because of new experiences, or does it take an altered state of mind to rediscover and process them from a new perspective?
